Youth development

With our promotion to the SPL came the need to review our youth development structure. SPL clubs are obliged to run a side to compete in the Clydesdale Bank Under 19 League and the nucleus of that squad came from the previous season's league-winning Under 17 side bolstered by some new, young faces from the summer of 2009.

Alec ClelandFormer Dundee United and Rangers defender Alec Cleland (pictured right) is our Under 19 coach, a move he held with Inverness Caledonian Thistle prior to their relegation from the SPL.

Teams younger than this continue to be of great importance to the club and for 2011/2012 teams are operating at Under 15, Under 14 and Under 13 levels.

Youth Development manager Tommy Campbell remains in charge of the overall set-up and he is once again ably assisted by his team of coaches.

As at any club, the aim is to bring through young players that can be considered for first team duty and midfielder Kevin Moon is our best current example of a player who has come through the system to make an impact at first-team level.

This season, a number of our younger players have made an impact on loan at Scottish Football League clubs - Zander Clark and Mark Durnan at Elgin City, Liam Caddis at Arbroath and none moreso than Stevie May who has made an excellent impact with Alloa Athletic, his goals helping them to the Third Division championship title.
